While I’m working hard (or am trying to)
While I’m working hard (or am trying to), may I point out these exciting new music things:
Elbow: CONGRATS on the Mercury. Well-deserved if you ask me… AND two new dates in The Netherlands (which is good because Utrecht is now sold out and I hadn’t bought a ticket yet).
Tom Mcrae: two new demos: Can’t Find You and 50 Miles Downriver at his Myspace. A bit underwhelming at first but once you realise that less is more… Less is indeed more… Beauty it is!
Fionn Regan: new acoustic demo of Ballad Of The Toadeaters on Myspace (also available on his Campaign Button EP which I own). Not sure I like this version too much, the uptempo BBC Radio 1 session of last year was much better.
Merz: this guy recently got recommended to me via the Last.fm website. I never really like what Last.fm recommends me, but I tend to check them out anyway and for once I think I’ve hit the jackpot. After listening to Presuming Too Much I wanted to run to the store and buy his album. And it has been quite some time since I last had that (really..!)… However, since my student loan is now half of what it used to be I have kept calm and did not rush off… I might buy it anyway in a couple of days, but for now, Myspace will do.
Aqualung is returning with a new album in the second week of October (7), apparently called ‘Words and Music.’ I found myself listening to 2007’s Memory Man quite a lot lately, it’s quite a slow burner. Apparently, this album is some old Aqualung stuff redone in a new acoustic style as well as new songs… Sounds promising, though I would have preferred an awesome new album. But who knows, this could be very awesome as well… No new material has hit the internet yet, but it can’t be long…
Ray LaMontagne: the new album is coming in October and single You Are The Best Thing has been on heavy rotation in my head… Can’t wait for the full album.
Despite all my 3 big traditional favourites (Turin Brakes, I Am Kloot, Kings of Convenience) not really releasing anything exciting this fall thusfar, I lookforward to the coming months… Should be good… And the new KOC record will most likely be coming out not much later… I Am Kloot are on an extensive tour through Europe next month (hopefully I’ll be able to attend) and TB… well… TB… I don’t know… You tell me…

Fionn Regan is quiet amazing, I’m finding it difficult to get into his new music though. In the meantime i’ll stick to the end of history.
I kind of like that ‘Protection Racket’ song, but that’s all I’ve heard besides ‘The Ballad of the Toadeaters’ (which originally dates from an EP released in 2005 I think – and that version was much better!)… It will be interesting to see what the new album will be like…
